Serious tram accident in Mannheim: 4 injuries have to go to the hospital!
On Tuesday, January 14, 2025, there were two serious accidents in Germany with trams in which several people were injured. In Schöneiche near Berlin, a 36-year-old driver, who wanted to turn left, came together with a tram on line 88 and was injured. The train derailed and was damaged, while three passengers in the tram were luckily unharmed at the time of the accident. The police started the investigation into the course of the accident, as RBB24 reported.
Another serious incident occurred in Mannheim around 6:45 a.m. when a Subaru on Casterfeldstrasse collided with a tram coming from Rheinau. The force of the collision was so strong that the car was dragged about 100 meters through the track bed. In this accident, four occupants of the vehicle suffered injuries, including two. All injuries had to be taken to the hospital, while the passengers of the tram were not harmed. While the demolished tram was recovered, Casterfeldstrasse remained impaired at times, and the railway operations were disturbed due to an overhead line damage, as Mannheim24 reported.
causes and consequences of accidents
The exact causes of the two accidents have so far been unclear, and the authorities are working to clarify the events in detail. In Mannheim, the transport services have taken over the investigation, while the passengers of the trams had to be redirected to alternative transport connections again. The rapid reaction of the rescue workers helped to control the situation and carry out the necessary measures for the operations management.
In both cases, the urgency is evident in increasing safety in road traffic, especially in the area of trams in order to avoid such incidents in the future.
