Black-green in Berlin? Göring-Eckardt sees opportunities for the future!
Bundestag Vice President Katrin Göring-Eckardt is optimistic about a possible black and green government coalition in the federal government. In an interview with the "Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung", she emphasized that the Greens in various federal states work successfully with the CDU and that it was time to consider this opportunity at the federal level. "We will certainly feel that we are exhausted in the federal government of working with the SPD and FDP," she said. The question of which direction the CDU is under the leadership of Friedrich Merz or Markus Söder will be decisive considering the next federal election in autumn 2025.
CSU boss Markus Söder, on the other hand, threatens to take a veto against a coalition with the Greens, while Merz is currently excluding such a partnership, but does not exclude it entirely for the future, especially if there is a “fundamental course correction” in the Greens' economic and environmental policy. In several federal states, including Baden-Württemberg and North Rhine-Westphalia, black and green coalitions are already ruling. These developments are made against the background that the two Greens chairman Ricarda Lang and Omid Nouripour have announced their retreat after a disappointing state election in Brandenburg, which may make a shift in party leadership. This could set the course for Economic Minister Robert Habeck as potential candidates for chancellor, according to observer.
