Black-green in the federal government: coalition plans cause excitement!

Bundestag Vice President Katrin Göring-Eckardt brought the possibility of a black and green government coalition at the federal level. In an interview with the “Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung”, she explained that the Greens in many federal states successfully rule with other democratic parties. She expressed that it was understandable that a rethink is necessary after working with the SPD and FDP. Göring-Eckardt called the coalitions in countries such as Baden-Württemberg, Schleswig-Holstein and North Rhine-Westphalia as examples of successful government and showed that a similar constellation could also work at federal level.

On the other hand, CSU boss Markus Söder is skeptical and threatened with a veto against a coalition with the Greens, while CDU candidate for chancellor Friedrich Merz is currently excluding such cooperation, but does not quite disclose it for the future, provided that the Greens are fundamentally changing in their economic and environmental policies. The CDU's political course could be crucial, especially with the 2025 Bundestag election. The Greens are also under pressure because their party leaders announced their resignation after the failed state election in Brandenburg, which exerts additional pressure on the Minister of Economic Affairs Robert Habeck, who is traded as possible Chancellor candidates.
