Schlesinger in the dispute over millions of reversal: does it come to the agreement?

In the dramatic legal dispute between the former RBB director Patricia Schlesinger and the Bundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (RBB), there are central questions in the room. Schlesinger, who has no longer been in office since her spectacular departure due to the so-called "Schlesinger scandal" in August 2022, calls for a monthly pension of over 18,300 euros, which, according to the employment contract, is also due to her departure. This regulation stipulates that, regardless of a new job, it is entitled to these payments that make up about 60 percent of its last basic salary. However, the RBB defends itself against these payments and sees the contract a "immoral" regulation, as [Berliner Zeitung reported about it.

Currently both sides push for an agreement in this legal dispute. At the last trial at the Berlin District Court, Schlesinger stated her lawyers to waive additional payments of around 300,000 euros, on the condition that the RBB drops its claims for damages against them. The RBB, on the other hand, calls for more than two million euros from Schlesinger for alleged breaches of duty that are related to a construction project of the now abandoned "digital media house". The RBB also requested that Schlesinger are excluded from all future retirement allowances. The negotiations could continue until May 31 to reach an agreement, as [epd.de also reports .

background and other developments

During the negotiations, the presiding judge made it clear that the RBB could possibly be obliged to pay the contractually agreed retirement allowance. In the investigation by the public prosecutor's office for allegations of infidelity and mismanagement that run against Schlesinger, the situation is tense for both parties. Her lawyers emphasize that rapid clarification is necessary, because Schlesinger has no income since she left and faces enormous process costs. The Causa Schlesinger not only raises questions about its individual responsibility, but also illuminates the problem of high remuneration in public service broadcasting, a topic that is controversial in public.
