Refurbishment summit in Berlin: Future for Building Industry and Climate

renovation summit in Berlin: A step to socially acceptable building renovation

On Tuesday, September 10, 2024, an important press conference will take place in the conference center in the Federal Press Conference in Berlin from 1 p.m. to 1.30 p.m. This event is part of the renovation summit, which was initiated by a broad alliance of associations in order to focus on socially acceptable building renovations.

The building sector plays a crucial role in climate protection and social justice in Germany. However, the path to decarbonization and energetic renewal of many older buildings is still a long time. The urgency of a comprehensive renovation offensive is recognized by numerous organizations that work for a sustainable and socially just living environment.

The wide alliance, consisting of relevant environmental, industrial and social associations as well as representatives of civil society, sees the implementation of a Germany-wide renovation offensive not only to advance climate protection, but also to promote the creation of affordable living space. This common concern is further discussed and worked out at the upcoming redevelopment summit.

The participants of the press conference include renowned representatives such as Daniel Rieger from Nabu, Dr. Melanie Weber-Moritz from the German Tenants' Association (DMB), Eva Maria Welskop-Deffaa from the German Caritasverband e.V. (DCV), Olaf Bandt from the BUND for the Environment and Nature Conservation Germany (BUND) and Christian Noll from the German Business Initiative Energy Efficiency e.V. (Deneff). These experts will offer valuable insights into the discussions and present the common demands.

The event will also offer the opportunity to ask questions about a live stream, which should ensure broad participation and transparency.

The redevelopment summit could be seen as a turning point for the discussion about the necessary measures for the renovation and energy efficiency in Germany. In order to ensure a climate -friendly future and at the same time strengthen social cohesion, it is crucial that all actors - from government to civil society - work together.

The BUND press office is available for questions and further information and is looking forward to a lively participation in this important meeting.
