Ryanair boss demands at the end of the nightly flight bans on BER!

At Berlin Brandenburg (BER) Airport, the strict night flight ban is always a challenge for airlines. Recently, Eddie Wilson, the manager of the low -cost airline Ryanair, was critical of the rigid regulations. On Sunday, a Ryanair flight from Gran Canaria to Berlin had to land in Hanover shortly after midnight due to the given landing season, which violates the applicable provisions. The night flight ban does not allow starts or landings from 0 a.m. to 5 a.m. Such violations can result in sensitive punishments of up to 50,000 euros for airlines, while passengers have to suffer from constant diversions and delays. According to Wilson, weather conditions or technical problems are primarily responsible for the delays - not the airlines themselves.

Wilson describes the situation as a "complete bullshit". He emphasizes that starting an aircraft even causes more noise than a landing. The detour to Hanover not only has consequences for travelers who have to accept long bypasses, but also a significant impact on the environment, since the aircraft has to fly back empty the next morning and also have to follow the crew. Ryanair therefore calls for more flexible handling of the night flight regulations that require reasonable compromises without completely lifting the ban. As early as 2023, the BER had over 23 million passengers and is therefore a central hub for the international connection of the capital region. The airport operators rely on measures to reduce aircraft noise, including noise-dependent fees in order to also take into account the concerns of the residents, such as berlin-airport.de.
