Rosa-Luxemburg Foundation: Austerity program due to a lack of state donations-job cancellations threaten

The Rosa-Luxemburg Foundation, which is close to the Left Party, is planning a drastic savings program in the last federal elections due to the new Foundation Act and the weaker results of the left. From 2026, the foundation will be available to the foundation "at least seven million euros less per year", as the managing director Daniela Trochowski announced to the newspaper "Nd.Dentag". This is because the good result of the 2009 left is deleted in the calculation and is replaced by a probably weaker result of 2025. Due to the high personnel expenses, about 40 percent of the jobs would have to be dismantled. At the end of 2023, almost 300 employees were employed by the foundation.

The party -related foundations of the parties represented in the Bundestag are financed from tax funds, with the proportion of calculating from the average of the last four Bundestag elections. The Rosa-Luxemburg Foundation is currently examining which structures and content offers can be obtained or changed and which it will have to do without in the future. Talks with the works council and the union are also planned. If the left does not reach the five percent hurdle in the 2025 federal election in 2025, the foundation will be financed from tax funds for another four years, but to a lesser extent.

The reduction in state grants is expected to have an impact on the work of the Rosa-Luxemburg Foundation. Some projects and programs may have to be deleted or there is a reduction in the offer. This could also significantly reduce the number of employees, which in turn could affect local employment. The foundation plays an important role in political education and research on socialist topics.

The other part -close foundations should also be affected by the new regulations and, if necessary, must also take savings measures. It remains to be seen how the political landscape and the results of the next federal elections will develop and what effects this will have on the financial situation of the foundations.
