Pollution in the Schäferseepark: Ordnungsamt plans to use homelessness

The regulatory office Reinickendorf has recently received more information from residents, but also from visitors about the increasing pollution in the Schäfereepark. In the case of checks on site by the field, several sleeping points were also found that indicate homelessness. "We have received evidence of several tents in the Schäfersee Park, which we have followed. In order to prevent the creation of a fixed hotspot and restore public order, the field service of the regulatory office will become active in the coming week. This will happen with a sensitive and socially adequate approach," announces district councilor Julia Schrod-Thiel (CDU).

It is planned that the deployment in cooperation with the Berlin police, Berlin city cleaning (BSR), the cold aid and the homeless aid will be carried out. One main goal is to offer those affected the homeless the opportunity to take advantage of emergency accommodation. Experience has shown that such an offer has so far been very rare in comparable situations.

"To give those affected the opportunity to leave the place before intervention, they have been informed by the workers of the field service for a few days about the planned commitment next Monday. Then the Berlin city cleaning will remove the remaining garbage in the Schäferseepark," summarizes the district councilor.

The district office Reinickendorf emphasizes its obligation in this context to restore public order on site and at the same time to take into account the needs of the homeless.

** Table: Number of homeless people in Reinickendorf **

| Year | Number of homeless |

| 2018 | 167 |

The increasing pollution and the increasing number of homeless people in the SchäferseePark reflect a growing problem in Reinickendorf. The planned intervention of the regulatory office in cooperation with various organizations to offer homeless emergency shelters is a step in the right direction.

It is important that the public order remains preserved, but the dignity and needs of the homeless must not be overlooked. The increasing figures of homeless people in Reinickendorf show in recent years that this problem requires a long -term and comprehensive solution. It is to be hoped that the planned intervention will lead to an improvement in the situation in the Schäferseepark.
