Community and joy through card games: The second double head tournament of the Reinickendorfer senior citizens' leisure facilities

On August 21, 2024, a remarkable event took place in the Heiligensee senior leisure center: the second official double head tournament. 24 participants, who were between 63 and 91, met card games in order not only to demonstrate their skills, but also to strengthen social cohesion within the community. Such events not only promote the competition, but also the cooperation among the seniors.

The tension was noticeable in the room when the first cards were mixed. The players were ready to win the coveted title of the double head champion. After three challenging game rounds with 16 exciting games, Michael Arndt prevailed and secured victory with 177 points. It was particularly noteworthy that he had celebrated his birthday just two days earlier. This connection between personal anniversary and tournament victory gave the occasion an additional meaning.

Second year of last year's winner Peter Schulze went with 155 points, while Werner Püttmann took third place. Personal competition in the leisure center is not only a measure to promote the mind, but also a significant part of social interaction and exchange in the senior community.

The award ceremony was carried out with a lot of joy and recognition by Henri Mahlendorf, the board of the senior citizens' leisure center, as well as Levent Ceylan, the deputy head of the Seniors department. In addition to the challenge cup, Michael Arndt received a trophy as a lasting memory. And the last place was also humorously recognized - with a glass of sour cucumbers, which caused general cheerfulness. Such small gestures raise the mood and underline the positive atmosphere.

The support of the Seniors department under the patronage of district mayor Emine Demirbüken-Wegner (CDU) was also crucial for the success of the tournament. The lunch catering ensured that all participants were well nourished, which in turn contributes to a better game atmosphere. The tireless use of volunteers and helpers showed how much the community appreciates and supports the success of the event.

The anticipation for the next double head tournament in 2025 is already growing - the Heiligensee senior leisure center will again serve as an event location. Such events not only shape everyday culture, but also promote long -term relationships and a healthy, active lifestyle in old age.
