Reinickendorfer Fleet grows: New cargo bike in Heiligensee
In the fox district there are news for all cargo bike fans: The Reinickendorfer fleet is expanded by another wheel. Since December 2023, an additional cargo bike has been available in Heiligensee, which is operated by the Evangelical parish of Berlin-Heiligensee. The cargo bike called "Bileams donkey" can be borrowed and returned on all days of the week between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.
The district mayor Emine Demirbüken-Wegner (CDU) sees the cargo bike project as a wonderful example of social participation. The bikes are provided by volunteer locations and all neighbors free of charge. It also emphasizes the contribution to climate protection that the project makes.
The cargo bikes are particularly suitable for large shopping, children's transport or picnic and thus contribute to a climate -friendly car replacement. The district climate office takes care of the overall project in the Reinickendorf district. The aim of the project is to enable this free opportunity to try out the unusual bikes.
The cargo bikes can be booked via the online booking platform www.flotte-berlin.de. Since 2021, the Reinickendorf district has been participating in the "Fleet Kommunal- Freie Breis for Berlin" program of the ADFC Berlin e.V.
This extension of the fleet is an important step for the mobility turnaround in Heiligensee and shows the growing interest in sustainable means of transport in the region. The possibility of borrowing cargo bikes free of charge can encourage many people to leave the car more often and switch to more environmentally friendly transport options. The increasing availability of cargo bikes could thus contribute to a reduction in CO2 emissions and a reduction in traffic in the region.
A table with information about the locations of the cargo bikes in Heiligensee and their availability could be helpful for interested parties to get an overview of the offer.
