Reinickendorf is urgently looking for living space for cold help 2025/2026!

The Berlin district of Reinickendorf faces an increasing challenge: the search for suitable accommodation for the 2025/2026 cold -term season is becoming increasingly difficult. District City Councilor for Social Affairs and Health, Uwe Brockhausen (SPD), has therefore asked property owners to offer their help. Cold aid is an important part of the support measures for homeless people who are urgently dependent on accommodations in the cold months.

Brockhausen points out that the need for women and men in need in particular increases in the district. "It is of great importance to offer people in vulnerable living situations a safe roof," he emphasizes. Those responsible in Reinickendorf are now under pressure to provide the necessary resources for cold help, since the tense real estate market situation makes it increasingly difficult to find suitable areas. Real estate owners who can provide premises are asked to contact Brockhausen directly via his email address uwe.brockhausen@reinickendorf.berlin.de or by phone at 030 90294 2260.

The emergency situation in Berlin

The Berlin cold aid, which provides emergency accommodation for homeless from October to April, raises the alarm. According to reports from rbb24 there are fewer and fewer areas and real estate. An empty former youth club at Wustrower Straße 18 is mentioned as an example, whose renovation requirement of one million euros makes it impossible to restore. Jens Aldag, the head of cold aid, expresses pessimism about the coming winter due to the rising homeless and the inadequate places.

Berliner Immobilienmanagement GmbH (BIM) is criticized because it provides dilapidated and unsuitable buildings that are not even suitable for wheelchair users. However, Aldag wishes that private providers, whose real estate are in need of renovation, also contact the cold aid in order to contribute to solving the situation.

background of the cold aid

Since its foundation in 1989 by Berlin parishes, charities and the Senate Department for Social Affairs, cold aid has been an indispensable part of the social network in Berlin. The aim of the cold aid is to prevent homeless people from freezing freezing in the cold season. The cold aid offers unbureaucratic accommodation options and has numerous partners who run emergency overnight stays, night cafes, soup kitchens and meeting points. These offers can be used anonymously and are financed by grants from the state of Berlin, funds of the league of the welfare associations and donations.

The coordination office of the cold help is responsible for the planning and development of the offers and publishes all information on your website as well as in a multilingual cold guide and a cold aid app. A cold telephone records the occupancy and loading of the available sleeping places every day.

The increasing needs in cold aid require urgent measures, and the challenges that the housing shortage brings with it must not be underestimated. The next cold hilk summit, which has been taking place annually since 2022, is intended to help develop the offers as required.
