Trittstein biotope opened in the AVA-Kiez: Nature experience in the middle of the city
On July 2, 2024, a new stepping stone biotope was opened in the AVA-Kiez, which is an important initiative to promote biodiversity in urban areas. The project, which was designed by the Foundation for Mensch & Environment, received financial support from the Senate Department for Mobility, Transport, Climate Protection and the Environment. Environmental city councilor Julia Schrod-Thiel (CDU) was enthusiastic about the new natural area at the opening.
The trittstein biotope in the AVA-Kiez not only offers a variety of domestic plants, but also special elements such as natural stones, insect hotels and nesting aids that make it an ideal environment for animals. The skillful arrangement of these elements gives the animals the opportunity to hide, breed and hibernate - a real little paradise in the middle of the city.
Prominent guests such as the State Secretary for Climate Protection and the Environment, Britta Behrendt, the general director of the Museum of Natural History, Prof. Johannes Vogel, and the district association of allotment gardeners Reinickendorf were present at the opening and congratulated this important step for the environment. The use of recycled stones from neighboring allotments, which have been integrated into the design of the biotope, is particularly commendable to protect resources and to support sustainable action.
Trittstein biotopes are more than just green areas - they serve as a link for animals between different habitats and offer important resources for their health and reproduction. Julia Schrod-Thiel emphasized the importance of these projects and has already announced the approval for the next implementation of a stepping stone biotope in the district in order to further strengthen ecological diversity.
The trittstein biotope in the AVA-Kiez is part of the program "Natural steps along the Green Hauptwegs" and shows how targeted measures can be promoted in the middle of the city. It is an inspiring example of the beauty and importance of biodiversity in urban areas and should serve as a model for future projects.
