New cycling lane opened in Heiligenseestrasse

On February 21, 2024, the northern bike lane in Heiligenseestrasse between Karolinenstraße and Elchdamm in the direction of Heiligensee was released for the use. On a distance of almost 3.4 kilometers between the Elchdamm and Karolinenstrasse, a cycling lane with a width of 2.50 meters was built on both sides. The marking work for the cycling lane on the southern lane side continues as soon as the weather permits.

These measures aim to promote the security and sustainability of mobility in the Reinickendorf district. The responsible district councilor Julia Schrod-Thiel (CDU) emphasized the importance of the new cycling strips as a signal for a traffic-safe environment. However, it is pointed out that a solution for drainage is also being worked on, since the previous measures are considered not sufficiently efficient in view of the current weather conditions.

The cycling strips are part of a larger plan to promote cycling in the Reinickendorf district. The creation of safe cycle paths not only spares the environment, but also promotes the health of the citizens. The street and green area office (SGA) of the Reinickendorf district office is responsible for the implementation and planning of these infrastructure projects.

The following table lists the specific information about the newly opened cycling lanes in Heiligenseestrasse:

| Route | Length | Width | Direction of travel | Status |
| ————————— | ---—- |-—-—-————————— |
| Elchdamm - Karolinenstraße | 3.4 km | 2.50 m | Heiligensee | Released |
