Basic renewal of Schildower Straße planned: Construction work from July 2024

New infrastructure project for Schildower Straße

On July 22, 2024, the construction work for an extensive renewal project in Schildower Strasse will start. This project extends from the Marthastraße/Parkstraße area to the Berlin/Brandenburg border. The construction work is planned for about 18 months and are carried out in two sections with full closure of the road in order to minimize the construction period and to keep the disorders for the residents as low as possible.

The planned construction areas are divided as follows:
1. construction area 1 : from Marthastraße/Parkstraße to Gertrudstraße
2. construction area 2 : From Gertrudstraße to the state border Berlin/Brandenburg.

An important measure in the course of the project concerns the diversion of bus line 326 of the BVG during the construction period. Before the start of construction, replacement stops along the diversion route will be set up in order to maintain local public transport. Pedestrian traffic will always be possible at least on one side of the street, while direct resident traffic with motor vehicles in the construction areas will only be very limited or not possible. However, the accessibility for fire and emergency vehicles is still guaranteed.

The main goal of the measures is to improve the structural structure of the road and the adjacent areas. This includes the extensive renewal of the road, the modernization of the sidewalks and the construction of a new street drainage. Various construction measures are implemented to promote traffic calming and reducing the passage speed, such as the increase in plateau at the confluence, crossing aids for pedestrians and green congestion. The hub areas are also designed barrier -free.

In addition to these renovations, the Veltheimstraße/Schildower Straße bus stop is also designed to be barrier -free and adapted for people restricted mobility. Due to decentralized rainwater management, the rainwater will in future be partially directed by a water and air-permeable pavement construction of the road surfaces and through seepage options in the unpaved side areas. This also serves to adapt to the expected effects of climate change.

Julia Schrod-Thiel (CDU), District Councilor of the Department of Order, Environment and Transport, emphasizes the importance of construction work for improving foot, bike and vehicle traffic in Schildower Strasse. The focus is on reducing the passage speed and increasing safety for pedestrians.

The residents have already been informed about the upcoming restrictions. Despite any inconveniences during the construction work, the need for the need for the infrastructure project is asked.
