Narrative performance by Meike Rötzer: Thomas Mann's magic mountain reinterpreted

100 years ago, Thomas Mann's epochal educational novel “The Magic Mountain” was published for the first time. The actress Meike Rötzer now tells the Magic Mountain so much and sensually that all the situations and figures of the Berghof come out plastic. On February 21, 2024 at 7:30 p.m.

The novel plays in an international sanatorium in Berghof in the Swiss high mountains and is about an extremely illustrious closed society of idiosyncratic characters. Hans Castorp spends seven years in society, with his love sparked by his love to Mme Chauchat. Meike Rötzer's narrative performance focuses on the brilliant characters, crazy situations and Hans Castorps searched. In addition, philosophical versions are treated on topics such as time and illness.

Meike Rötzer, a trained actress, worked from 2008 to 2022 as editor at Matthes & Seitz Berlin. In addition, she appears at readings, is a spokeswoman and author for radio features and audio books and maintains the podcast "Naturkunde". It recently founded the narrative book publisher and was nominated in 2023 for the German Audiobook Prize, the best interpreter category.

The event will take place on February 21, 2024 at 7:30 p.m. in the Humboldt Library, Karolinenstraße 19, 13507 Berlin, and admission is free.

It would be interesting to give historical insights into the emergence of the novel and the life of Thomas Mann. A table could be helpful to illustrate the various works by Thomas Mann and her publication data.
