monuments open their doors: Reinickendorf celebrates the day of the open monument
In the heart of Berlin-Reinickendorf, an important cultural event will be celebrated on the first weekend in September: the day of the open monument. This weekend, September 7th and 8th, over twenty monuments have the opportunity to give visitors an insight into their history and architecture. This initiative is not only in accordance with the nationwide motto "contemporary witnesses of history", but also shows how valuable monument preservation is for understanding one's own city history.
Particular attention is paid to the Reinickendorf town hall, which is emphasized by City Councilor Korinna Stephan (Bündnis 90/Die Grünen) as an important monument. "The town hall, which was built in two different epochs, combines history and contemporary architecture, which makes it a fascinating part of our cultural heritage," she explains. The tours of the town hall take place on Sunday at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., and interested parties can register at museum@reinickendorf.berlin.de.
Another highlight of the weekend is a visit to the architect Erwin Anton Gutkind's residential complex in Ollenhauerstrasse. This facility, which was built between 1927 and 1928 as part of the "new building", shows the innovative approaches of the early 20th century. The renovated daycare center on the site is also an important part of the community and creates space for the formation of the youngest.
In addition to these striking places, a terrain on the classic car bus offers exciting insights into the former site of Tegel Airport. This nostalgic tour is an attraction for everyone who is interested in the district's industrial past.
Reinickendorf houses around 1,000 valuable monuments, which can often be found in the areas of industry and housing. The multitude and diversity of these monuments ensure that the city history in Reinickendorf is impressively alive. Participation in such an event not only promotes the knowledge and interest in your own cultural heritage, but also brings the community closer together.
The open monument day is an excellent opportunity to discover and appreciate the wealth and variety of architecture in Reinickendorf. This cultural event not only provides valuable insights into history, but also contributes to the awareness of the importance of monument conservation, which is of both economic and ecological importance.
