The World Malphabetization Day, which is celebrated worldwide on September 8, offers an important opportunity to draw attention to the topic of functional illiteracy. In Berlin, the Reinickendorf alpha alliance organized an information event on September 9th in the Märkisches Center at Senftenberger Ring 3 A, which both informed the public and offered support for those affected.

The City Councilor Harald Muschner (CDU) visited this interactive status and commented on the alarming number of around 6.2 million adults in Germany who have difficulty reading and writing. "Swhababetization is a central building block for equal opportunities and social participation," said Muschner, emphasizing the importance of broader sensitization and support.

The alpha alliance works closely with other local institutions, including the district library, the adult education center, the family organizer Märkisches Viertel and the job center. The aim of this merger is to reach people in their surroundings in a targeted manner and to help them deal with their difficulties with the written language.

At the event, not only informed about the support offers, but also discussed the social relevance of the topic. The mayor called for more importance to this problem in public discourse to reduce the challenges for those affected. "It is our common responsibility to give people the opportunity to improve their skills and to be better integrated into society," said Muschner.
