Illegal bus track in Dahlem and Zehlendorf is finally lifted
The bus lane on Clayallee in Dahlem and Zehlendorf is finally removed after disputes, a lawsuit and a court ruling have occurred. The Berlin transport administration announced that the "bus special lane" between Argentinian Allee and Riemeisterstraße is lifted.
Originally, the bus lane was set up on a parking strip in 2022. However, the residents successfully sued this measure. The Berlin Administrative Court declared the trail on August 31 last year in an urgent procedure. It was found that the requirements for such a special track were not met. There were not enough buses on the road and the time saving for the buses through the special travel lane was not significant enough.
According to the court ruling, the markings of the bus lane were overlooked and the traffic signs were covered. Since then, many drivers in particular have found traffic management and parking rules as confusing.
Now all markings of the bus lane are removed, on which buses, ambulances, taxis and bicycles should drive from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. However, the transport administration emphasized that this is an individual decision based on the specific circumstances of this case. It was found that regular bus traffic continuously progresses without its own trace.
The decision to remove the bus track creates discussions. While some support the measure because they think the bus lane was unnecessary and confusing, others are now afraid of an ambiguity and a decline in attractiveness of local public transport.
Overall, it remains to be seen how the removal of the bus track will affect traffic in Clayallee. It will be exciting to see whether regular bus traffic continues to work smoothly even without a separate track or whether there is disabilities and a deterioration in the traffic situation.
