Puccini magic returns: multimedia exhibition in Milan

It's a big comeback in the world of opera! After a gigantic success in Berlin, where over 10,000 visitors visited the Puccini exhibition in the Bertelsmann House, Italian genius returns-and how! The composer's historical legacy was honored on April 25, 1926, on which the classic "Turandot", his last operatic creation, in which legendary Milan Scala was premiered. Now, on the occasion of Giacomo Puccini's 100th day of death, the audience in Milan can marvel at impressive original documents of these masterpieces.

In the multimedia exhibition "Puccini - Opera meets New Media" of the Museo Teatrale Alla Scala, the extraordinary connection between opera and the new media of the early 20th century is illuminated. This exhibition offers a unique insight into Puccini's life, with fascinating exhibits such as handwritten notes, scores and sketches that document the creative processes of the Maestro. Curators such as Gabriele Dotto, Ellen Lockhart and Christy Thomas Adams have put together this show carefully to illustrate the exciting symbiosis between art and commerce.

a treasure of world rank

Thomas Rabe, CEO of Bertelsmann, proudly commented on the cultural value of the archive: "We are very aware of the importance of this cultural treasure of world rank and take responsibility for its sustainable security." The Casa Ricordi, Puccini's publisher, has a long history in copyright law that allows artists to be adequately rewarded for their creative work. The Ricordi family was pioneer in this area for generations and has therefore laid a foundation for the recovery of rights.

Bertelsmann is actively involved in the cultural sector and not only combines classical patronage with the Culture@Bertelsmann initiative, but also modern communication strategies. The exhibition, which will be shown in Milan from October 24, 2024 to January 12, 2025, will be part of a larger cultural dialogue about the value of creative work.

an unforgettable experience in Milan

The multimedia exhibition not only offers insights into Puccini's work, but also into the challenges that the developing media bring in the field of copyright law. The show is open every day from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Museo Teatrale Alla Scala, where numerous events take the visitors into the world of Puccinis. Another highlight is a richly illustrated accompanying publication for the exhibition, published by Gabriele Dotto, at Prestel (Penguin Random House).

The Archivio Storico Ricordi is considered one of the most important music collections worldwide, with an incomparable collection of over 7,800 handwritten scores and 31,000 letters that document the history of Italian opera. Bertelsmann is aware of the responsibility that goes hand in hand with the possession of this unique cultural heritage, and does everything possible to preserve and make his treasures for future generations.
