On Friday morning, the Bernau train station near Berlin was an hour -long interruption of rail traffic due to a mentally conspicuous passenger. The federal police stopped a regional train, which led to considerable delays on the regional railway connection between Berlin and the Baltic Sea. There were also problems in the evening.

The 32-year-old passenger had noticed other passengers around 11 a.m. and was then reported. Officials from the Federal Police Directorate Berlin took him into custody in Bernau station. According to the "Märkische Oderzeitung" ("MOZ"), the train station was then cleared.

A fellow traveler described the suspect as striking, with a kind of camouflage suit and partial masking. In addition, he had tied something that looked like an explosive belt.

The police spokeswoman said that the man was noticeable due to the objects carried out in which a danger could not be excluded. For security reasons, a defusing team from the Brandenburg State Criminal Police Office examined these objects. A piece of luggage was finally shot at by the emergency services with a so -called water rifle. This shot with high water pressure is able to penetrate the housing of a explosive body and to destroy the detonator, preventing a possible explosion. However, the authorities could not say with certainty whether there was actually a bomb in the suitcase.

During the examination, rail traffic at Bernau train station was interrupted for about four hours until afternoon. This affected the S-Bahn line 2 between Zepernick and Bernau as well as the regional train lines RB 24 (Eberswalde airport BER), RE 3 (Stralsund-Wittenberg) and Re66 (Stettin-Berlin).

Deutsche Bahn announced a replacement of rail traffic, but did not set it up. Instead, the Barnimer Busgesellschaft (BBG) sent three buses to Bernau in the early afternoon to bring the passengers to Eberswalde.

The 32-year-old passenger was brought into a psychiatry due to his obvious exceptional psychological situation. So far, the federal police have not been available for information on the exact content of the luggage or the plans of the man. The investigation into the incident is still underway.
