Protests in front of the Russian embassy: Language ban at Kiev demonstration in Berlin

Protest against human rights violations in front of the Berlin Russen message

On Monday, hundreds of people gathered in front of the Russian embassy in Berlin to protest the recent violations of human rights in Ukraine. The reason for the demonstration was a barbaric rocket attack on a children's hospital in Kiev, in which 31 innocent civilians were killed. The demonstrators expressed their grief and condemned the persistent war of aggression of the Russian army.

A controversial topic during the protest was the decision of the police that speeches could only be kept in German or English. Although the Ukrainian Association Vibechen e.V. had registered the demonstration, there was no official agreement about which languages could be used in the speeches. Many participants therefore felt circumcised in their identity because they were not allowed to speak in their mother tongue.

It should be pointed out that there is no law in Germany that prescribes the use of a specific language in demonstrations. However, the police can impose restrictions on the language of speeches for reasons of public security or order. This often happens to prevent punishment if there are no translation options.

The demonstration in front of the Russian embassy in Berlin illustrated the commitment of many citizens to protect human rights and peace in Ukraine. The protest was a clear sign against continued violence and aggression that demands innocent lives and tightening international conflicts.
