Price surprise for Berliners: public transport tickets are becoming more expensive!

An unexpected message for passengers in Berlin and Brandenburg: The Transport Association Berlin-Brandenburg (VBB) lowered the prices for single trips in the ABC tariff area. Instead of the originally announced 4.80 euros, a trip will only cost 4.70 euros from January 2024, as reported by the B.Z. . This is due to a rounding error confirmed by a spokesman for VBB. In contrast, ticket prices increase in total: from January 2024, passengers will pay an average of 7.5 percent more. A single trip in the Berlin urban area (area AB) increases by 30 cents to 3.80 euros.

rising ticket prices and new options

At the same time, the price for the single ticket remains not without changes. From January 1, 2024, this costs 3.50 euros, which means an increase of 30 cents. In the cities of Brandenburg a.d.H., Frankfurt or and Cottbus, the price increases by 20 cents to 2.30 euros, and in Potsdam by 10 cents to 2.60 euros. In Berlin, the price for a short distance of 2.20 euros is also increased to 2.40 euros, as well as the vbb announced.

For passengers who regularly use public transport, however, a new option is promised: The 29-euro ticket for the Berlin city area can be introduced in the first half of 2024, provided that the technical and sales requirements are met. This ticket is personally bound, but can be purchased as a subscription without restrictions. The introduction is subject to the budget permit in Berlin's double budget 2024/25, whereby the financial burdens are borne by the state of Berlin.
