Price increase for social ticket: Berlin meets Knüppelhart!

In Berlin, the public transport network is becoming increasingly unaffected. From April 2025, prices for the social ticket, which previously cost 9 euros, increase to an incredible 19 euros. This corresponds to an increase of 111 percent and mainly affects the most needy citizens of the capital, such as Berlin Live . Around 200,000 people who rely on the social ticket, including recipients of citizen benefit, basic security and refugees, are asked to pay. The Berlin Senate plans to save 25 million euros in grants annually through this drastic price increase.

But that's not all: From now on, the popular 29-euro ticket is no longer available. This decision was officially made on December 10, 2024, such as rbb24 Existing customers have to prepare for the fact that no new Berlin subscriptions can be completed. It remains unclear which options are now available for the remaining ticket holders, since the Senate Department has not yet provided information. The 29-euro ticket was deleted as part of the austerity measures of the Senate, and the coalition is now checking whether existing customers have to switch to the Germany ticket for 58 euros or the environmental card for 71.40 euros. This development leads to additional uncertainty among passengers that rely on public transport.
