Potsdam Christmas magic: New splendor for Brandenburg's largest market!
A new Christmas market called “Potsdam Christmas Magic” will be celebrated in Potsdam from November 24, 2025. The market stretches across Luisenplatz, Brandenburger Straße and Bassinplatz and is expected to attract around a million visitors, as rbb24 reports. The Christmas market is the largest in the state of Brandenburg and has come under criticism in recent years due to a lighting concept that was perceived as uncomfortable. To counteract this, a new concept was developed to create a welcoming atmosphere.
As part of the redesign, the lighting concept will be redesigned under the direction of the Berlin company Boehlke. The city center is to be bathed in a warm light, with so-called “Potsdam light stars” being used as a striking design element. Future visitors can look forward to impressive light portals, festively illuminated pagodas, as well as a large Christmas tree and glowing figures at Luisenplatz. Brandenburger Straße in particular is highlighted with special lighting elements.
A wide range of hands-on activities
Another highlight of the “Potsdam Christmas Magic” will be the newly established Sternengasse, which will serve as a place for encounters and creative exchange. In this star alley, various hands-on offers as well as the “Star Forge” are presented, where products from regional newcomers and creative people are offered. There are nine club huts available for visitors, each of which is dedicated to its own subject area. These huts are free of charge for the clubs, which further supports the local community.
The market will be open daily from 11 a.m. On Fridays and Saturdays it closes at 10 p.m., on other days at 9 p.m. The exception is December 24th, when the Christmas market remains closed. There will also be shortened opening hours from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Boxing Day and Boxing Day, as potsdam.de adds.
