Cup sensation and surprises: Women's football inspires in Cologne

In the DFB Cup of women, some surprising twists occurred in the second round that caused a sensation. While the top teams in the Bundesliga mostly found their way to the round of 16, some top-class teams had to throw the towel at home. So it caught two representatives of the highest league: RB Leipzig lost 0-1 against 1. FC Union Berlin, and 1. FC Köln failed in the Rhenish derby on Borussia Mönchengladbach in penalty shootout.

After an early deficit through a goal from Pia Schneider, the Cologne team did not give up. Svenja Streller showed an impressive performance when she increased to 2-1 in the first and in the second half. With another goal in the final minute through Vivien, Fortuna sealed her first quarter -final qualification.

The favorites move into the round of 16

The established Bundesliga clubs like FC Bayern Munich demonstrated their superiority in this round. With a clear 6-0 win against SC Sand, Bayern presented themselves efficiently and strong. Jovana Damnjanović and Georgia Stanway met in the first half. Linda Dallmann and Giulia Gwinn also contributed to the peat festival before Lea Schüller set the final result of 6: 0.

Bayer Leverkusen and Werder Bremen also fulfilled their competitive games without major problems. Leverkusen won 2-0 against Karlsruher SC and Werder Arminia Bielefeld 4-0, whereby Larissa Mühlhaus contributed to the fast lead with two goals. TSG Hoffenheim even prevailed 7-0 against SV Hegnach and thus showed its offensive strength.

The SGS Essen and the Bundesliga promoted Turbine Potsdam also stayed without conceding a goal. Essen certainly won 3-0 against DJK Wacker Mecklenbeck, while Potsdam prevailed with a solid 2-0 at Viktoria Berlin.
