PKV is committed to holistic prevention strategy: memorandum to strengthen health promotion
PKV is committed to departure in prevention and health promotion
The Association of Private Health Insurance (PKV) is committed to making prevention a central element in health policy. Together with various partners from the healthcare system, the PKV has written a memorandum that is reminiscent of its goals set in the coalition agreement and warns of a restriction of the concept of prevention. The memorandum is a reaction to the recently presented laws of the Federal Ministry of Health, which aims at the establishment of a Federal Institute for Prevention and Enlightenment in Medicine (BIPAM) and the early detection of heart disease.
PKV managing director Timm Genett emphasizes the importance of prevention and health promotion in order to contain the increase in medical and nursing care loads through demographic change and to be able to finance the health system sustainably. However, Genett warns against preventing preventive medicine, although the coalition agreement promises something else. The PKV and their partners see the current draft laws critically because they fear institutional and programmatic narrowing of the concept of prevention.
In their initiative, the PKV and its partners underline the need for a comprehensive prevention strategy that combines various approaches and strengthens the collaboration of the actors. According to Genett, there is a great need for better prevention and health promotion in Germany. Anyone who focuses exclusively on measures within the medical care system plays the enormous potential of prevention for a health system -resistant demographic environment. The memorandum with the title "Make prevention to the lead principle of health policy" and the organizations involved can be found on the website www.praealvention-testalten.de.
