Nursing relatives in mind: demands on the European day of care

on October 6, the European Day of Nursing Relatives, an urgent voice arises for more self -determination and support for the millions of people who take care of relatives in need of care. The Federal Association of Nursing Relatives raises the alarm: Over eight million people in Germany do heroic deeds in nursing every day, and yet they are often abandoned!

Edeltraut Hütte-Schmitz, a member of the board of the self-help organization and advocacy, we care for no doubt: "Nursing relatives must finally be recognized as equally equal partners in nursing and receive the support that they earn!" In Germany, only a measly 2.3 percent of those in need of care who are cared for at home are available in day care. This brings many relatives to their limits!

alarm level red in outpatient care!

The situation is dangerous: if people in need of care do not have a place in day care, they are often forced to use outpatient services four times a day. But that is expensive, often relatives have to pay up to 4000 euros in their own contribution! And the best? Your entitlement to day care expires, remains unused in the drawer! Where's justice?

Heinrich Stockschlaeder, also a board member, sums it up: "We are calling for flexible use of the benefits. If no day care space is available, the claim must at least be used for outpatient missions or the independent organization of care!" It is high time for changes!

Financial support requested!

And that's not all: the spending of the long -term care insurance is a scandal! A third flows into inpatient care - although only 16 percent of people in need of care are treated there. How is that justified? Edeltraut Hütte-Schmitz loudly demands more financial support for relatives who do valuable work despite all the adversities.

These brave people are not only faced with enormous emotional stress, they also fight against a system that lets them down. It is time for society to listen and act! The caring relatives require recognition and real support - now!

In Berlin, the call for change is getting louder. The concerns of the caring relatives deserve our attention. If we don't act, who?
