Tiger mosquito alarm on Berlin cemeteries: new population discovered!
Tiger mosquito alarm on Berlin cemeteries: new population discovered!
In the up -and -coming district of Pankow, tiger mosquitoes were recently discovered, which house both adults and their larvae in various cemeteries in the eastern district of Prenzlauer Berg. These copies of the Aedes Albopictus have previously been spotted in allotment gardens in Treptow-Köpenick and Neukölln, which illustrates the spread of these insect-like pests in Berlin.
In order to counter the distribution, the district offices Mitte and Pankow immediately took measures. They advise the cemeteries concerned and provide information material and signs for visitors. In addition, the district office Mitte leads the monitoring of the tiger mosquitoes in Berlin, and the population is asked to send suspicious mosquitoes or corresponding photos by email to vectoronitoring@ba-mitte.berlin.de.
It is crucial to remove artificial breeding grounds of the tiger mosquitoes by regularly emptied water accumulation such as watering can or grave vases. It is also recommended to use mosquito repellents and wear long clothing to avoid stitches, since tiger mosquitoes can transmit potentially dangerous pathogens such as dengue or zika virus. Although such transfers have so far only been documented in countries such as France and Italy, caution is required.
It remains to be seen how the authorities react to this newly discovered threat and what other measures are taken to contain the spread of tiger mosquitoes. The tiger mosquito season is expected to end with the insertion of the colder temperatures, but it is important to remain vigilant and to fight together against this potential health risk.
