Safety measure in Schönhausen: Historical beech must give way
Attention, nature lovers! On a fateful day, the majestic beech in the Schönhausen Schlosspark, which has shaped the landscape for decades, will be felled! On December 3, 2024, the time has come - the plant, which is considered a natural monument, must give way.
The sad truth behind the precipitation
What appears like an idyllic green area, harbors serious dangers! Mushrooms such as the tinder sponge and fire crust mushroom have caused incredible damage. A comprehensive investigation has shown that the beech - once proudly - is no longer safe. Legending wood residues in the trunk and root area are almost completely devoured. The trunk foot and the crown of the tree are about to collapse!
parking security has priority!
The years of extreme weather conditions have demanded their toll - drought and scorching heat have put the once magnificent beech. The felling of a neighboring tree has also dramatically increased the load. The juice lines are badly damaged, and coarser structural defects make a complete collapse possible at any time. This is not about nostalgia - this is about security!
Manuela Anders-Granitzki, the district councilor for order and public space, broke her head: "After thorough examination, we had to decide with a heavy heart. To protect the park visitors, this felling is inevitable and the only responsible solution!" She regrets the loss of historical beech, but the traffic safety of the visitors has a top priority.
In this central location, preservation of the old tree is simply not possible - a spacious barrier would not be carried out. Nature has its own language, and sometimes it goes different ways than we want.
