Reconstructed memorial stone for Julie von Voss comes back to Berlin. A Prussian cultural heritage will be revived!

A former memorial stone for Elisabeth Amalia by Voß, called Julie, was reconstructed and is now being set up at his original location on the northern circular route in the Schlosspark Buch (near entrance Pöllnitzweg, 13125 Berlin). The ceremonial inauguration will take place on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. in the presence of the district councilor for order and public space, Manuela Anders-Granitzki.

Who was Julie von Voss?
Elisabeth Amalia von Voss (1766-1789) was employed as a court lady with the Prussian Queen Elisabeth Christine (1715-1797). At the court she met the Crown Prince and later King of Prussia, Friedrich Wilhelm II, who received the Morganian marriage to Julie von Voß in 1787 (connection between men and women, if they are of different levels). Julie von Voß died shortly after the birth of the son.

Julie's brother Otto von Voß (1755–1823) had a memorial stone built in the Schlosspark by the architect Hans Christian Genelli (1763–1823) around 1795. It is designed in the style of an ancient Roman grave facility and bears the Latin inscription: "Soror Optima - Amica Patriae - Vale" ("Best sister - girlfriend of the fatherland - goodwill").

restoration thanks to community financing possible
In the 1950s, the last still existing parts of the former memorial stone were recovered and kept in today's Berlin city museum, the rest was canceled. In a community financing by the Hincerdey - Foundation Berlin , the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation, the State Monument Office Berlin and the Street and Green Area Office Pankow have now managed to rebuild the memorial stone. Just like the former memorial stone, the re -made stone is also provided with a surrounding fence. The total cost of the project is around 125,000 euros.
