In the pulsating heart of Berlin, a new era for the falconer at the Mauerpark begins. From Monday, July 15, 2024, construction -preparing measures will be initiated here in order to create a near -natural neighborhood park. This park extends over an area of 33,350 square meters and offers space for relaxation, activities and the promotion of biological diversity in the city.
A green concept for humans and nature
The plans for the new falcial field are based on a concept that was developed together with ecology experts and residents. It is based on the Berlin strategy for biological diversity. The creation of wildflower and herbal beads as well as the supplement of the inventory vegetation with regional trees is promoted the biological diversity. In addition, 17 new trees are planted to donate shadows and improve air quality.
Various options for visitors
Visitors to the park can relax on 5,000 square meters of lawn and recharge their batteries. In addition, four new sports and calisthenics locations as well as table tennis panels are available. The playground and the popular Walross-Plansche are being renovated for the little ones. In addition, the network of paths is renewed on an area of 2,890 square meters.
Template and completion
From August 2024, construction work will affect the falcial area, whereby the completion is planned for spring 2026. Areas are initially cordoned off for the implementation of ordnance examinations. In order to keep the restrictions low, diversions are set up. The playground remains accessible to visitors during the summer months.
The district councilor for order and public space, Manuela Anders-Granitzki, emphasizes the importance of the ecological redesign of the Falkplatz. New plantings contribute to biodiversity and climate protection. The planned sports facilities offer space for movement and relaxation. In particular, care is taken to ensure that the falcial site is available again in good time for the warm season 2026 in order to meet the needs of the citizens.
The redesign of the Falkplatz is part of the comprehensive renovation of the wall park and the adjacent areas. Due to the careful development, more quality of stay and climate adjustment are to be created. The project is realized and financed with the support of Grün Berlin to create a green oasis in the heart of Berlin.
