High amount of work: Pankow regulatory office closes department
The press release provides information about the temporary completion of the Department of the Pankower Ordnungsamt in the week of April 15-19, 2024. This is done due to the continued work volume and the resulting work arrears. District Councilor Manuela Anders-Granitzki emphasizes that the familiarization of the many new employees is time and resource-intensive due to the complex legal matter of trade law.
An important reason for the overload of the department is the increase in trade registrations compared to the previous year. The number increased by around 21 percent. In addition, proposals to the restaurant law had to be processed increasingly, which is a challenge for the approximately 1,600 restaurants in the district. Around 46,700 businesses are currently registered in Pankow.
The closure of the department for a week is necessary to specifically reduce the accrued work arrears. Despite the high commitment of the employees, this is considered without an alternative to ensure the efficient coping of the upcoming tasks. The city councilor asks for understanding for any inconvenience that may occur during the closure time.
In order to better capture the dimension of the facts, a table follows with the figures mentioned on the commercial registrations and permission applications:
| | 31.12.2022 | 31.12.2023 | Increase |
| ————————— | ———————— | ——— |
| Commercial reports | 10.075 | 12.156 | 21% |
| Applications for the Restaurant Act | 1.056 | 1,350 | 28% |
The development illustrates the increasing burden on the business department and the need for temporary closure to deal with work arrears.
