Remembrance of Berlin's masonry: laid out in the cemetery in Weißensee
On August 13, 2024, a special commemoration of the victims of the Berlin Wall will take place in Pankow. Deputy head David Paul, together with district mayor Dr. Cordelia Koch at 2 p.m. in the Evangelical Cemetery in Weißensee put a wreath at the grave of Peter Fechter.
Peter Fechter lost his life 62 years ago in trying to overcome the Berlin Wall. His tragic death made him a symbol of the cruelty of the wall. Millions of people had previously left the GDR, looking for freedom and better living conditions. The construction of the wall through the SED ended this flow of refugees and brought immeasurable suffering through many families.
All interested citizens are cordially invited to the memorial event. The cemetery of the Evangelical Resurrection Community in Weißensee is located at Indira-Gandhi-Straße 110 in Berlin. The meeting point is the church administration at the entrance to the cemetery. It is an opportunity to commemorate together and to set a sign against inhumanity.
