Honor for resistance fighter: Gertrud Classen inaugurated space
The area between Nauggarder Straße, Hosemannstraße and Erich-Weinert-Straße will soon have a new name-Gertrud Classen. The famous sculptor and painter will be officially honored on Thursday, October 10, 2024, at 4:30 p.m. At the ceremony, Manuela Anders-Granitzki, district councilor for order and public space, Stephanie Wittenburg, equal opportunities officer in the district office, will take part in the traces of traces in the Pankow women's advisory board and the Kieinitiative Gertrud-Classen-Platz.
Gertrud Classen, born on July 3, 1905 in Königsberg and died on September 3, 1974 in Berlin, was a brave resistant to the Nazi regime. After the war she lived in the GDR, where she was active as a freelance sculptor. Her works, such as the sculpture "Die Agebauhlerin" in the green area on Ossietzkystrasse in Pankow and the sculpture "Reading boy" in Weißensee, testify to her artistic talent and her commitment.
The naming of the Square after Gertrud Classen reflects the appreciation for your meritorious work and honors her inheritance. All interested parties are cordially invited without participating in prior registration.
It is a special pleasure for Anders-Granitzki to give the residents back and to give them joy after long construction work by the Berlin water operations.
