traffic calming in the Wischberweg: Measures and their effects on residents

In Heinersdorf, a district of Berlin, a significant construction work will be tackled this year to reduce car through traffic in the Wischbergeweg. This change aims to create a pleasant living environment and increase the safety of pedestrians and cyclists. The implementation of these measures is the result of numerous complaints from residents who want a calmer and safe neighborhood.

On September 11, 2024, at 7 p.m., an information event will take place in the street and green space office at Darßer Strasse 203. This is open to all citizens who learn more about the planned changes and want to express their concerns. The organizer is the district councilor for order and public space, Manuela Anders-Granitzki, who invites you to step into dialogue. Participation in this meeting is important in order to incorporate the opinions of the citizens into the redesign process.

Specifically, the wiping is changed by a structural redesign at the confluence with the Malchower Straße, so that it will end as a dead end. In the future, vehicles are said to have access to the Wischbereweg from Romain-Rolland-Straße and Rennbahnstrasse. These measures not only promote traffic calming, but also enable better permeability for foot and cycling, which is of great importance in times of increasing environmental awareness.

The need for this construction work was confirmed by the Pankow district council on the basis of various feedback from the residents. The residents are committed to reducing motorized traffic to significantly improve the quality of life in the district. The planned solution is therefore both an expression of civic engagement and an example of forward -looking urban planning.

The information event will be prepared by e-mail by email at sga.allgeme@ba-pankow.berlin.de by September 5th. This enables those responsible to effectively organize the event and ensure that all topics of the residents can be adequately discussed.

Overall, this project shows how important it is to include the voices of the community in urban planning processes. The measures on the wiping -up are not only a reaction to complaints, but also a step towards a more livable city.
