Austria's political turn: Recipery of right -wing extremism under Kickl
A dramatic election outcome in Austria - a nightmare for democracy! While the country is stuck, the question arises: How could it get that far? Once again, it shows that the former stronghold of freedom is grasped by a right -wing extremist current that is not in the shield.
on Sunday evening, while the voices were counted, the thought shot through my head: "A country that is becoming more and more stupid through experience." It cannot be grasped how Austria remains in the face of right -wing extremism. The Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) was part of the government four times and managed to blow up every coalition before the end of the legislative period. The last government fell in a scandalous flop, the Ibiza scandal, and yet we are now standing in front of a pile of broken glass, only worse than before.
a new, old power?
The FPÖ, led by the self -proclaimed "People's Chancellor" Herbert Kickl, has established himself as the most strongest party. The elections are cutting that voters in the country are willing to support a party that only apparently praised their right -wing extremism before the elections. On Friday, just a few days before the crucial election date, FPÖ top candidates poured a weapon-SS song and thus reminded of the "Holy German Empire". Where should that end? These so -called "blue" pull the entire party spectrum to the right and the signs are alarming.
with Kickl, a eerie strategist, at the top, there are dark times. He plans not only to propagate the goals formulated in the election program, but also to enforce them. A plot against the media landscape, a radical migration stop and even a spy system for monitoring left -wing teachers - all that sounds like a dystopian film.
an uprising of civil society?
But the Austrian left should not rely on the traditional self -declaration of the right. The lessons of the past have to be used today, because the ghost of right -wing extremism takes up more space than ever. Austria is at a crucial turning point. Will it have the courage to defend yourself or will it be sent to the dark?
