Open the gates to history: Open Monument Day in the Neukladow Manor House!
In Berlin-Spandau, more precisely in the Gutshaus Neukladow, the Open Monument Day will take place on September 13th and 14th, 2025. This event opens the doors to one of the historical highlights of Berlin society, which was built around 1800 and has been open to the public since 2006. Entry to this special event is free, which makes it even more attractive to discover the beauty and history of the building. Berlin.de reports.
The program during Open Monument Day promises a rich offering of art, music and history. Visitors can not only view the listed manor house, but also take part in guided tours that provide insights into the Guthmann family's time. In particular, Dr. Ralf F. Hartmann will provide information about the planned future of the manor house as an art museum and cultural location.
The history of the manor house
The Neukladow manor house has an eventful history that dates back to the 19th century. Johannes Guthmann lived in the property from 1910 to 1921 and made it a meeting place for artists and intellectuals, including famous names such as Max Liebermann and Gerhard Hauptmann. Dr. Miriam-Esther Owesle, the scientific director of the Guthmann Academy, has studied the history of the manor house intensively and analyzed both the historical and current significance of the place. MOZ reports.
In 2006 the manor house was returned to the public after being empty for many years. Since 2016, the gastronomic management has been under Mark Lackmann, and visitors can enjoy hot and cold drinks as well as homemade cakes and tarts from the Berlin confectionery Engelmann.
Future visions and events
The planned renovation of the entire building ensemble, including the manager's house, casino and gatehouse, will further enhance the Neukladow manor house. Visitors can also tour the caretaker's house with Christian Hamm, which was not open to the public for a long time. A discussion with State Secretary Stephan Machulik and District Councilor Dr. Carola Brückner will provide additional insights into future plans.
Special events regularly take place in the manor house in summer. Among other things, the operator Bork Meles offers music evenings on the terrace, which are accompanied musically by Konstantin Nazarov on the piano. These initiatives help keep the manor house's long and impressive history alive and promote cultural exchange.
Melanie Alperstaedt and Seraphina Rekowski are available for feedback and further information and can be contacted by email at presse@zitadelle-berlin.de or by telephone at 354 944 400. In addition, the planned future of the manor house will focus on the creation of an art museum that will further strengthen the historical and cultural significance of the location.
