New elections for the field coordination: Citizens shape the Tempelhofer Feld!

An important election awaits citizens in the heart of Berlin: the new elections for the field coordination for Tempelhofer Feld will take place on October 11th, 12th and 16th, 2025. These elections are part of a comprehensive participation model that has been organizing citizen participation at Tempelhofer Feld since 2016. The citizen participation initiative is based on the law for the preservation of Tempelhofer Feld (ThFG) and the development and maintenance plan (EPP), which was passed by the Senate in May 2016. The Senate Department for the Environment is in charge here and is working together with Grün Berlin GmbH on the implementation.

The field coordination consists of ten elected citizens as well as representatives of the Senate Administration and Grün Berlin GmbH. Every three years, the people of Berlin elect the members. This year, 16 candidates stood for election and will present themselves in an online event on September 25, 2025. All Berliners aged 16 and over are eligible to vote and can come to the [Info Pavilion](https://tempelhofer-feld.berlin.de/ Beteiligungsmodell-thf/) on Columbiadamm for the elections.

Participation in Tempelhofer Feld

A central element of the participation model is the active involvement of citizens in decisions about the use and maintenance of Tempelhofer Feld. The process began with a referendum on May 25, 2014, in which Berliners voted for the law to preserve Tempelhofer Feld. Building on this, a two-year process followed in which the future use of the area and sustainable development goals were defined together with the citizens. This is reflected in the current participation model, which relies on transparency and participation to promote the joint development of public spaces. According to the participation platform, a three-pillar model has been established with the field forum, field coordination and thematic workshops.

The field coordination organizes regular public meetings and ensures the involvement of all population groups. The central tasks include preparing the field forum, which takes place at least once a year, and supporting working groups. At the last field forums, such as the 16th Forum on May 17, 2025, important topics for the future of the Tempelhofer Field were discussed.

Candidacy and elections

With the upcoming election date, numerous people have already applied for membership in the field coordination. To encourage conversations and applicants' ideas, elected Field Coordinator Pat Appleton encourages all Berliners to apply by September 11, 2025. The public presentation of the candidates will take place on September 25, 2025. Interested citizens can cast their votes on the election days themselves: on October 11th and 12th, 2025 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the red information pavilion, and on October 16th, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the field forum in the Cabuwazi circus.

There are a variety of opportunities for everyone who would like to actively participate in the participation process at Tempelhofer Feld to get involved. Those interested can take part in the monthly field coordination meetings and get involved in thematic workshops dealing with nature conservation, history and civic engagement. These are held at least once a year and offer a platform for retrospective discussions as well as new proposals for the development of the Tempelhof field.
