Neukölln's mayor warns of further riots and demands stronger counter -signals in Berlin

Berlin - Neukölln's Mayor Martin Hikel (37, SPD) expects further riots in the district and at the same time in favor of stronger counter -signals from the population. "I am very worried. If the conflict in Middle East further intensifies, for example through an Israeli soil offensive, I already see the risk that people take advantage of this and continue hatred on the streets," Hikel told the German Press Agency.

"I would like those who quickly take to the streets on the world on all possible occasions in the world and take a clear sign against violence on Sonnenallee and the agitation in this city." In the end it is also about standing behind the Jews in the city.

With a view to the bans on the demonstration, he said: "The demonstrations that initially pretended to pretend to be in Palestinian are usually shown in agitation against Israel."

It was also hypocritical to say a bit, when Palestinians are taken away by the right to demonstrate. "It would be right to say: they were taken away from being raveningly."

Among the young Neuköllner demonstrators are probably also those who are unconditionally palest -friendly and unable to "take a change of perspective".

"In the medium term, we have to look at how our democracy support projects work, for example, at schools and other institutions," says Hikel. The topic of anti -Semitism always has to play a role there.

The agitation against Israel and against Jews is not a new phenomenon for him. "For a few months, before the terrorist attack on Israel, we have been able to observe that many demonstrations that are registered in Neukölln and Berlin are often more likely to get out towards agitation," said Hikel on Friday morning in ZDF "Morgenmagazin".

To blame for this are also organizations such as the Palestinian network Samidoun, which contribute to the fact that events on solidarity with people in Gaza and in the West Bank in agitation against Israel.
