Oderstraße is converted and renovated to the bicycle road: important connection for Berlin cyclists.
The Oderstraße along the Tempelhofer Feld is to be converted and renovated to the bicycle road. The renovation is part of the Radge fast connection Y-Trasse and is intended to improve the much-used cycling connection towards Tempelhof and Kreuzberg. In addition to the bicycle -friendly conversion, the barrier -free connection of the Schillerkiezes to the Tempelhofer Feld and the climate -friendly renovation are the focus of the measure.
The groundbreaking ceremony will take place on October 18, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. District City Councilor Jochen Biedermann will be present.
Various changes are made as part of the measure. First of all, the no longer usable bicycle strip along the Tempelhofer Feld is painted and designed as a green strip. As a result, the existing street trees benefit and an additional twelve new trees are planted. The sidewalk along the buildings is renovated and barrier -free with curb's lowering at the road crossings. In order to further improve the accessibility, Middle Islands and side forwards are built in the amount of access to the Tempelhofer Feld in order to simplify the crossing of the Oderstrasse.
Due to the necessary renovation work of the Berlin water operations (BWB) on a drinking water pipe, the redesign of the Oderstrasse are carried out in two construction phases. In the first phase of construction, the side areas such as sidewalk, former bike path and park strips will be renovated by the end of 2024. The roadway is then renovated in the second construction phase.
The financing of € 1,565 million is carried out by state and federal funds of the urban development program "Living centers and quarters", which are provided by the Senate Department for Urban Development, Building and Living.
According to information from the district councilor Jochen Biedermann, the conversion of the Oderstraße will lead to an improvement in the traffic situation for cyclists and to increase accessibility. The cityscape is also embellished by the redesign of the road and planting new trees. The implementation in two construction phases enables at least part of the measure to be completed at the end of 2024.
