New street trees: Neukölln district planted 249 various tree species
This winter 249 new road trees will be planted throughout the district, of which the district office itself plants 99 trees and 150 more trees are redeveloped as part of the city tree campaign. The new plantings aim to make the city trees more diverse in order to adapt to the changing climate. Among the new tree species are different types of Gleditis, a Hopbuchen species and the bee tree, a total of 25 different tree species.
A particularly large number of plantings are carried out on Gradestrasse, the Allerstrasse, on the Kiehlufer, in Neudecker Weg and in the Waßmannsdorfer Chaussee. It is worth noting that 27 trees from the city tree campaign are funded.
District City Councilor Jochen Biedermann expressed himself very satisfied about the campaign and emphasized the need to plant more street trees permanently to ensure a positive development. He also called for better financing options on the part of the Senate to achieve these goals.
Before each reproduction, the district office carries out extensive plans. Questions about the location, lines, tree disc size and other matters are checked. The newly planted trees are particularly well maintained as part of development care for five years.
The "Caps" action program includes the new and replanting and replica of the district also measures to improve the location conditions, such as enlarging the tree slices, frightening and targeted rainwater steering to increase the lifespan of the trees. Extensive new plantings were also carried out at district cemeteries last winter. In Schillerkiez, tree conducting planning is currently being implemented to improve the conditions of the existing trees.
The city tree campaign "Stadtbüzen für Berlin" was initiated in 2012 by the Senate Department to plant additional street trees by donating. Through a single tree donation of 500 euros, individuals or communities can donate to a certain tree within a planting period. As soon as 500 euros in donations have been taken for a tree, the Senate gives the rest from the state budget.
Here is a table with some information about the new tree species:
| Tree species | Number | Locations |
| ——————- | ——————————————
| Gleditschien | XX | Gradestrasse, Allerstrasse |
| Hopbuchen art | XX | Kiehlufer, Neudecker Weg |
| Bee tree | XX | Waßmannsdorfer Chaussee |
Overall, the increased planting and maintenance of road trees in the district is an important step to adapt to climate change and to create a pleasant and green environment for the residents.
