Hasenheide in Berlin-Neukölln is converted to counteract the effects of climate change. Find out more about the planning and the current status here.

The district office Neukölln plans to convert the Hasenheide because the climate change is considerably adding the largest green area in the district. The first test plantings have already been carried out and from November 2023 the construction and planting work will continue. In a further construction phase, around 260 trees and many shrubs are to be planted by spring 2024. In addition, new meadows are created and entrances are equipped with benches and plantings. A report on the previous experiences and the further planning will be presented by the district on Friday, October 6, 2023, from 4:30 p.m. at the Hasenchänke in Hasenheide. Then there is the possibility of a guided tour of the park.

background

The Hasenheide is in poor condition, since 10 % of the trees have had to be felled prematurely in recent years. The lawns have to struggle with drought and enormous pressure to use.

The district of Neukölln receives around 5 million euros in the federal government as part of a funding program for climate adaptation and modernization in urban rooms for the “Climate Silient Hasenheide” model project. These funds must be invested by the end of 2025 in accordance with the federal program.
