Neukölln is expanding a successful project Berlin home visits

The “Berlin Home Visits” project was successfully implemented and is now enjoying an expansion to the Berlin district of Neukölln, especially in Gropiusstadt. The aim of this model project is to offer older people aged 70 and over personal home visits to inform them about topics such as health, care and leisure activities in their immediate environment.

The home visits are carried out by trained experts from the Maltese, social workers and experienced nurses who act as "pilots" and "pilots". Their main focus is on the individual wishes and needs of the senior citizens. For example, they help with placement for care facilities or the search for social offers such as choirs or senior groups in the neighborhood.

The responsible department head of the Berlin Malteser, Susanne Karimi, emphasizes: "We want to show older people opportunities for how to discover suitable offers in their quarters, make contacts and find support options."

Participation in Berlin's home visits is voluntary, and the seniors can decide whether they want to make use of this offer. District City Councilor Hannes Rehfeldt from Neukölln underlines the importance of this project and encourages older people who have so far had no contact with senior citizens' institutions to accept the advice and information of the pilots.

The model project, which started in two Berlin districts in 2021, is now being extended to all districts to open up new perspectives for activities and participation in old age. Senator Dr. Ina Czyborra emphasizes the positive response to the information and lots: Interior and the importance of showing older people that they are not left alone in Berlin.
