Neukölln raises the alarm: First report on right -wing extremism published!

Neukölln, Deutschland - The district office Neukölln recently published the first report on right -wing extremist activities in the district. The report, which was created on the initiative of the Neukölln district council, offers a comprehensive overview of right-wing extremist incidents and its development in the Neukölln complex since the 2000s. This topic is the focus of a parliamentary committee of inquiry, which deals with numerous judicial and official procedures that were triggered by these incidents. Reporting is carried out in cooperation with documentation and advice centers and the Berlin constitutional protection, which illustrates the seriousness of the situation.

The results of City Councilor Sarah Nagel, representatives: inside of advisory and affecting organizations and criminologist Max Laube were presented as part of a press conference. The report not only shows the problem of right -wing violence, but is also intended to derive measures to prevent and support those affected. Nagel emphasizes the high relevance of the report in order to make the threats visible from right -wing extremism.

statistics and processing

The numbers speak for themselves: In 2023, the police registered 208 right -wing extremists in Neukölln, with about half of these incidents to be assigned to the propaganda area. Advice centers even report 400 incidents, which indicates a high dark field, since many victims often do not indicate crimes for various reasons, such as lack of trust in state structures or uncertain residence status. Between 2013 and 2019, neo-Nazis focused on at least 72 crimes as part of the Neukölln complex, including 23 arson attacks on cars of political opponents: inside that indicate a worrying escalation.

A first version of the report was published on March 20, 2025 and has now undergone a revised version that took into account a legal examination of the district office. The civil society contributions have been structured and more clearly identified as the contributions of third parties to ensure transparency.

Understand and combat right -wing extremism

The report is not only an inventory, but also an important step in combating right -wing extremism. Research shows that right -wing extremists are based on different causes that are both political and social nature. Political abrasions against dictatorships, trivialization of historical crimes and racist ideologies are formative characteristics of right -wing extremism. In order to counteract these tendencies, clear political measures and preventive approaches are required, such as the promotion of political education and municipal programs for the social integration of young people.

Effective radicalization prevention must pursue various approaches and take into account individual and social risk factors. Measures such as the promotion of media literacy and political education projects are the focus of this prevention work. In particular, adolescence is seen as a decisive phase for political socialization in which young people should have access to democratic values and human rights.

The published reports and statistical data illustrate the urgency with which right -wing extremism must be tackled in Neukölln. The district is required to continue to work on solutions in order to counter the increasing threat of right -wing extremist ideologies and to support those affected by right -wing violence.
