Redesign of the Wriezen Park: a sustainable change for Friedrichshain
New graffiti wall in Wriezener Park offers legal space for street art
The redesign of the Wriezener Park in Friedrichshain has been completed. The green area between Warschauer Straße and Rüdersdorfer Straße was completely rebuilt over several years in order to improve the quality of stay of the area. A special highlight of the new park is the graffiti wall, which has been used since autumn 2023. This offers artists in the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district a legal space for their street art creations.
From 2019 to 2020, the area around the locomotive shed between Helsingforser Straße and Rüdersdorfer Straße was initially created and planted. In recent years, the conversion of the middle section on Helsingforser Straße and the area on the parking access from the Helsingforser Platz has followed. Parts of the concrete surface opposite Pillauer Straße were sealed. New places and paths were built as well as shrubs, perennials and lawn, which has a positive effect on the city climate.
In addition to the artistic note through the graffiti wall, practical improvements in the park were also made. The meeting point in front of the container of the Gangway e.V. and the skater system received new seating options to promote social interaction. The staircase on the parking was expanded and a total of many repairs were carried out on the paths.
Annika Gerold, district councilor for traffic, green spaces, order and environment, commented: "The extensive redesign of the Wriezener Park shows how we can strengthen the city climate and social interaction by creating new resorts and the promotion of legal graffitism."
The graffiti wall is not only an artistic enrichment of the park, but also offers a way to avoid conflict. By setting up a "beginner wall" of pressing plates in front of the Gangway e.V. container, disputes over graffiti areas are avoided.
The completion of the Wriezen Park shows again how the living environment can be improved sustainably through targeted redesign of public places. The residents of Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg can look forward to a modern and appealing park that offers space for relaxation, artistic activity and social interaction.
