New Federal Center for Allotment Gardeners in Berlin-Neukölln opened
On August 27, 2024, the new Federal Center of the Federal Association of the Kleingartenvereine in Germany (BKD) will open in Berlin-Neukölln. This significant event takes place in the central premises in Hermannstrasse and will not only attract local size such as district mayor Martin Hikel, but also high -ranking representatives from the federal government as well as international guests from twelve European countries.
What makes this opening so special? It is not only the location that is reminiscent of the roots of the German allotment garden, but also the new concept of the center: the building, which was built as part of an innovative timber construction, serves not only as an administrative seat, but also as an exhibition center and educational institution for the allotment garden movement.
A highlight of the new Federal Center is the permanent exhibition "Stadt | Natur | Mensch", which highlights the important role of the allotments for the urban environment on around 160 square meters. Interested visitors learn more about the history, current challenges and future possibilities of allotment gardens in terms of biodiversity and sustainable urban development. The interactive design of the exhibition makes it possible to address the different senses, for example by experiencing the sounds of nature.
An additional attraction will be the planned “green classroom”, which should serve as a place of learning from spring 2025 school classes and other interested parties. This area also contributes to promoting awareness of ecological topics and enabling education outdoors.
The new federal center is also the venue for a European conference that takes place from August 26th to 29th, 2024. Here, allotment gardeners from all over Europe will exchange questions about important questions of climate change and urban planning, which underlines the importance of the allotments in a global context.
Interest in the allotment garden movement has experienced an upswing in recent years. The opening of the new center not only symbolizes a return to the roots of the BKD, but also a strengthening of the community and ecological education at a time when the importance of urban green areas is becoming increasingly obvious.
In general, the revival of the allotment garden is not only a local matter, but is in a broader trend in return on sustainability and community gardening. The opening ceremony and the subsequent events offer an excellent opportunity for everyone who is interested in the future of urban nature and the role of the allotments.
We invite all interested parties to appear on the press tour and get a first impression of the new premises and the exhibition. For more information about the exhibition, your opening times from September 3 and for future events, please visit the official website of the BKD: www.kleingarten-bund.de/bundeszentrum/ .
The opening of the Federal Center in Berlin-Neukölln is therefore an important event that will have far-reaching effects on the allotment garden movement in Germany and beyond.
