Save the new school location for Albert-Gutzmann School from 2026-90 million euros!

Schulstraße 97, 10179 Berlin, Deutschland - On May 30, 2025, the district office Mitte made a significant decision in relation to school education. District City Councilor for School and Sport, Benjamin Fritz, announced that the Albert Gutzmann School will be relocated to a new location in the school year 2026/2027. The decision of the district office, which was made on May 27, 2025, stipulates that the school is temporarily moving from the Pankstrasse location to Schulstraße 97.

The relocation is part of a comprehensive new school building project. The construction phase at the Pankstraße location, which was originally used for nine years, is reduced by this measure by three years, which leads to a saving of around 90 million euros. After completing the construction work, the school community will return to its original location. The new school building on Schulstraße is intended to include an area of 13,000 square meters and is implemented in the design of a "Compermannschule", which is implemented as part of the Berlin school building offensive.

modern learning environment and sports opportunities

The architecture of the new school building provides for an innovative interior design. Teaching spaces and team areas are arranged for central forums that serve as open learning and staying areas. On the upper floors there are individual learning comments that allow flexible use. In addition, the new school building will have a double sports hall with six indoor parts, which is available for school sports and club sports. This represents a significant improvement in the conditions for students and avoids stress due to construction noise during the transition phase of the construction work.

Another exciting aspect of current developments in the education sector in Berlin is the inauguration of a modular supplementary building for the Schilling School in Neukölln, which was designed for students with intellectual disabilities. This building is part of the Berlin school building offensive, which has been running since 2016, which invests several hundred million euros annually in school building.

extension and accessibility

  • The new modular supplementary construction includes:
    • 12 stem group rooms
    • 8 division rooms with kitchen lines
    • 1 multi -purpose room
    • 2 therapy rooms
    • 2 nursing rooms
    • 1 art space
    • 1 room for teachers and educational
    • cafeteria with 60 seats and output kitchen

After the autumn holidays, 9 classes with 53 students will move into the new premises after they had to be taught in almost 30 years old mobile classrooms. With the opening of the modular supplementary structure, the Schilling School will be able to accept a total of 72 pupils with intellectual disabilities in support level I to II. The planned construction project will not only improve the quality of the educational offers, but also ensure accessibility.

These and similar projects illustrate how important initiatives such as the Berlin school building offensive help to continuously improve the infrastructure of the schools and to meet the needs of the students. A quick procedure in planning and construction is made possible by a more modular repair system that has been developed since 2018 as part of a realization competition. The Bruno Fioretti Marquez GmbH winning office has designed a concept that is both aesthetically appealing and functional and efficient.

The combination of innovative architectures in school education and the increased commitment to new learning environments marks an important step in the development of the Berlin education sector. Progressing measures to improve the school system are not only necessary in view of the outdated infrastructure, but also to promote the quality of education in the capital.
