Mariendorfer Damm: Progress in the expansion of the bike path

The Mariendorfer Damm in Berlin continues to be used to expand the cycle path network. The section between the Tempelhofer Damm and the Alt-Mariendorf underground station is expected to receive a bike path protected on both sides. The responsible district transport councilor Saskia Ellenbeck (Greens) said that the construction of the next section has already started.

First, the section lying out of the city is built between Kurfürstenstraße and Kaiserstrasse. This is followed by the section between Westphalweg and Eisenacher Straße. The construction work should be completed by mid -August. At the same time the asphalt is renewed.

The expansion of the cycle path network, however, leads to impairments and possibly further traffic jams for drivers who commute on this busy route at peak times.

In the long term, it is planned to equip the entire Mariendorfer Damm between Alt-Mariendorf and the Tempelhofer Damm with a continuous protected bike path. A first section between Alt-Mariendorf and Prühßstraße has already been implemented. The total measure should be completed by the end of the year.

In Berlin, the topic of cycle path construction is currently a high priority. The CDU and SPD coalition instructed the districts to review certain planned cycle path projects. As a result, the planned bike tracks on the main and Grunewaldstraße in Schöneberg are no longer built. Further information and news from Tempelhof-Schöneberg can be found here.
