New public playground in Berlin-Lichtenberg: Modern design for children up to 10 years

The construction work for the new public playground on Gudrunstraße and Rüdigerstraße in Berlin-Lichtenberg has recently started. The draft of the renowned landscape architect office Prartarten is expected to be implemented by 2024/2025. What is special about this project is the inclusion of the children when planning the playground. In the summer of 2023, the children of the Selma warehousing school, the Gerda warehouses elementary school and the Kita Herzberger Wurzelzwerge e.V.

District Councilor Filiz Küllüoğlu emphasized the importance of children's participation and announced that the results will be exhibited until September 11th in the shop window of the district center at Fanninger Strasse 33. After that, the documentation is presented directly on the building fence of the playground in order to make progress visible to everyone interested. The children involved are personally informed about the results by the playground planners and the Lichtenberg street and green area office, as recognition for their valuable contribution.

The new playground is designed with a special architectural note thanks to the funds from the "Sustainable Renewal" program and district own funds. A noise barrier up to 3.5 meters high, which limits the daycare plot in the south and leads to the playground, will be the striking element of the design. The innovative wall consists of colored concrete slices that are reminiscent of opening ice floes and visually structure the playground area.

The games on the new playground are both barrier -free and inclusive. Children between the ages of three and ten can let off steam on slides, climbing scaffolding, hiding places and observation items. The noise barrier is cleverly integrated into the game concept and offers additional functions such as bouldering, climbing and strength sport. A well thought -out planting and a stable fence create a safe environment for the children, while the design of the south side of the wall with grass ensures a pleasant atmosphere.

Overall, the new playground on Gudrunstraße and Rüdigerstrasse promises an exciting and varied gaming experience for children of all ages. By integrating the children in planning and the innovative design, this playground will become a real highlight in Berlin-Lichtenberg.
