New subway trains in Berlin: higher reliability and more comfort!

New subway trains of the JK series have been on the U2 route in Berlin since September 8, 2025. The Berlin Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) is satisfied with the reliability of the new trains: this has increased by about 6 percentage points to 94 percent. Loud rbb24, which is pursuing the BVG's initiatives, a total of 140 new cars from the JK series are to be put into operation by the end of 2025.

Governing Mayor Kai Wegner personally accompanied the premiere trip of the new trains. The new subway trolleys offer a variety of improvements for passengers. Larger display boards make orientation easier, while a new seat pattern and additional seats increase comfort. In addition, the doors can now be opened automatically if the corresponding button is operated while driving. Information on outputs and changes to other underground or S-Bahn lines are displayed on screens in the car, while announcements are now also provided in English.

Positive effects of the new trains

The reliability has improved in particular on lines U2 and U4, and the U4 has been going every six to seven minutes since the school holidays. Another improvement can be expected shortly on the U3, which will benefit from the newer trains. Older cars of the U2 will be gradually used on the U3 from October 2025 to restore a maximum traction of eight cars. The BVG CEO Henrik Falk sees this as a successful stabilization of the subway operation and emphasizes the commitment to passengers ( BVG ).

In the next few days, the fourth train of the new series will be put into operation on the U2. Eight new cars are delivered to the BVG every week. This continuous influence is accompanied by positive feedback from the Berlin population. In the future, the BVG will provide regular updates to stabilize the operation and the status of the influence.

Long -term projects in local transport

The BVG not only makes progress on the new trains, but also plans a comprehensive improvement in the infrastructure. In addition to the new construction of routes as network extensions, special emphasis is placed on the repair and upgrading of the existing network. In the transport contract between the state of Berlin and the BVG Aör, agreements were made to promote accessibility. The aim is to increase the usability for all population groups, which is part of the local transport plan of the State of Berlin ( Berlin.de ).
